The Genesis: Sam the Skunkman & Karel Schelfhout

The story of Super Sativa Seed Club is deeply rooted in the mid-eighties, a time when the name SSSC resonated with every cannabis grower. The inception of this legendary seed bank was marked by a serendipitous meeting between 'Sam the Skunkman' and Karel Schelfhout. After relocating from California, Sam entrusted Karel with the original Haze and Skunk#01 genetics. These precious strains laid the foundation for the illustrious strains that would later define the Super Sativa Seed Club Catalog.

Prior to the rise of SSSC, the world had witnessed the establishment of "the Seedbank" by Nevil Schoenmaker. Recognized as the world's first international operating seedbank, Nevil's pioneering work involved blending the original Haze seeds from Sam with strains he discovered during an expedition in Afghanistan. The seeds that Karel acquired from both Nevil and Sam became the cornerstone for the breeding endeavors of the Super Sativa Seeds Bank.

Global Recognition: The High Times Era

Between 1985 and 1987, the world of cannabis witnessed the meteoric rise of SSSC. Their innovative genetics pushed the boundaries of breeding, gaining global attention. The pivotal moment came when High Times magazine spotlighted the Dutch seed bank, catapulting their sales across the USA, Europe, and Asia. However, like all great tales, this chapter had an end. Post two groundbreaking years, the founders parted ways, leading to the unfortunate loss of most of the SSSC seed collection.

Preserving the Legend: Karel's Dedication

Despite the setbacks, the spirit of SSSC lived on. Karel, with his unwavering dedication, preserved a gem from the past - a descendant of the original Haze and Skunk#01. Cherishing this plant for over three decades, he named it 'Old School Haze'. Today, many strains boasting Haze or Skunk flavors owe their lineage to the original SSSC seeds.

The 90s marked a shift in Karel's focus towards genetic preservation and breeding new strains for Amsterdam's Coffee shops. His expertise in advanced indoor growing techniques solidified his reputation in elite genetics and cultivation. This era also saw the return of Kees, Karel's son, from Barcelona. With a shared passion, the father-son duo embarked on a journey to revive the SSSC legacy. Kees, representing a new generation of breeders, worked diligently to reintroduce the original taste and quality of Haze, ensuring that the Super Sativa Seed Club remains a beacon in the world of cannabis genetics.
